Trauma healing works effectively in Burundi by using group therapy in safe settings called "Listening Rooms." Each group includes people who identify themselves as Hutu plus those who say they are Tutsi. Healing and reconciliation happen in amazingly powerful ways. Click on the photos below to enlarge.

Work with Women

The work we do with women heals deep wounds, empowers the hopeless, and provides nurturing support so that they can better nurture their own. THARS coordinates more than 90 women's "Self-Help" groups, for mutual support in raising income and managing meager earnings. Watch this story about Magrate and her journey...

Just as Magrate has experienced for herself, this work can create new friendships, teach functional skills, and produce items that can be sold for profit. These women have learned to make children's school outfits, backpacks, handbags, shoulder bags, pencil bags & personal clothes. Providing this support with love makes a significant impact on these women and their families.

Patty Federighi

The Sewing workshops that help to train trauma survivors are led by Patty Federighi, Director of Peace Through Pieces, a ministry of North Seattle Friends Church. For more information about Patty and her ministry, please visit her webpage.
